July 2026 Individual Due Dates & Mid-Year Check-Up

July represents a critical pivot point in the financial calendar. Now halfway through 2026, dual-income professionals, service-based entrepreneurs, and business leaders have a clear picture of their year-to-date trajectory. Waiting until December to assess your tax liability often leads to missed opportunities and unnecessary stress.

At Hays CPA LLC, based in Staten Island, NY, but serving clients worldwide, our mission is simple: "We Go Beyond Accounting." We view July not just as a month of summer vacations, but as a strategic window to structure, refine, and gain financial clarity before year-end. Here are the key individual tax deadlines and proactive reminders to keep on your radar this month.

July 1: Conducting a Mid-Year Tax Check-Up

For many of our clients—from expanding for-profit businesses to high-earning professionals—July 1 serves as the unofficial start of mid-year tax planning. A comprehensive check-up right now is essential for preserving wealth. This is the time to review your 2026 year-to-date income, scrutinize expenses, and project your third and fourth-quarter earnings.

By evaluating your estimated tax payments and current withholding levels, you can make precise adjustments that prevent underpayment penalties when April rolls around. If you have experienced significant changes this year—such as selling a property, exercising stock options, or scaling your business operations—your tax liability has likely shifted. Adjusting your strategy now provides peace of mind and keeps your cash flow predictable.

July 10: Reporting June Tips to Employers

If you work in the service industry or manage a business with tipped employees, July 10 is an important compliance date. Employees who received more than $20 in tips during the month of June must report these earnings to their employer. This can be done using IRS Form 4070 or through a signed written statement outlining the employee's name, address, Social Security number, employer details, and the total tips received for the period.

Once reported, employers are required to withhold FICA and income taxes from regular wages to cover the tip income. If an employee's regular wages fall short of covering these tax obligations, the employer will report the uncollected amount in Box 8 of the employee's W-2. Ultimately, the employee must pay this uncollected withholding upon filing their annual return. Maintaining accurate tracking protects both the employer’s payroll compliance and the employee from year-end tax surprises.

Statutory Extensions: Weekends, Holidays, and Disaster Relief

The IRS maintains strict due dates, but there are standard exceptions built into the tax code. Whenever a filing or payment deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the due date is automatically pushed to the next business day that is not a holiday.

Beyond standard calendar shifts, the IRS provides critical relief during natural disasters. Living and working in Staten Island, we understand firsthand how severe weather events can disrupt personal and business finances. When a geographical area receives a federal disaster declaration, the IRS typically grants broad extensions for tax filings and payments.

To verify if your region qualifies for extended deadlines, you can cross-reference active declarations on the following official portals:
